Spotlight Country Norway

Lectures and Cultural Programs

The Seoul International Book Fair 2024 presents Norway as Spotlight Country, marking the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Norway and Korea. Derived from Old Norse meaning “the way north,” Norway is situated as the northernmost country among the Nordic countries of northern Europe. With mountainous terrain and low population density, Norway boasts one of the cleanest environments in the world, preserving its pristine natural surroundings. Ever wondered what literature emerges from such an environment? As part of the Spotlight Country program, we have prepared an exhibition where Korean-translated Norwegian literature can be explored alongside their original texts.

Everybody Counts is a seek-and-find book, a counting book, and a picture book about humanity.
We are counting people, from 0 to 7.5 billion.
All the people belong to groups, e.g. a family, a flea market or an airport. We start with a boy and his family, and all the groups are related to them.
Many people appear in different groups and situations, and throughout the book numerous narratives are created.
The book provides a playful view of the many connections and coincidences in our lives.
Every single one of us has a unique story, but we are all part of the same group ― the world.
