Guest of Honor — TAIWAN

Taiwan Sensibility 臺灣感性

Taiwan Sensibility is the scent of culture and the warmth of emotion.

It moves through alleyways and behind iron-grilled windows, quietly woven into the details of daily life.

To many Korean readers and travelers, Taiwan feels both unfamiliar and familiar—a cultural landscape where nostalgia meets the contemporary, freedom meets restraint, and diversity meets inclusion.

This sensibility stems from Taiwan’s unique historical and cultural soil, and from the tender, nuanced bonds between people.

At Seoul International Book Fair 2025, Taiwan takes center stage as the Guest of Honor, presenting the theme “Taiwan Sensibility.” Korean readers are invited to see with their eyes, listen with their ears, and feel with their hearts the cultural rhythm of this island.

Taiwan Sensibility is the wind of freedom.
Taiwan Sensibility is an open embrace.
Taiwan Sensibility is the banyan tree on campus.
Taiwan Sensibility is the whales and dolphins in the ocean.
Taiwan Sensibility is the everyday life found in our alleyways.
Taiwan Sensibility is the joy in celebration.
Taiwan Sensibility is the pleasure of food.
Taiwan Sensibility is the ease of the traveler.
Taiwan Sensibility is the foresight embedded in microchips.
Taiwan Sensibility is the depth and brilliance in words and images.
Taiwan Sensibility is the passion for connecting with the world.
Taiwan Sensibility is the belief in each person’s independence and dignity.

The Taiwan Pavilion is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, organized by the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), and executed by the Taipei Book Fair Foundation. Through six cultural dimensions, it explores what constitutes “Taiwan Sensibility” and showcases the island’s richly layered identity:

- Literature: From classics to contemporary works, Taiwan’s literary landscape highlights themes of gender, migration, LGBTQ+, social class, and national languages—engaging in dialogue with Korean readers.

- Lifestyle: Through the lens of everyday life and emotional experience, Taiwan’s inclusive aesthetic of living is brought into focus.

- Images: From illustration to graphic novels, the Pavilion highlights the international vitality and innovative language of Taiwan’s image-makers.

- Mountains, Seas, and Travel: Writing on nature and culture narrates the island’s memories and landscapes.

- Food & Entertainment: From street snacks to cinematic storytelling, Taiwan’s sensory experiences are uniquely interconnected.

- Shared Histories: Marking 80 years since the end of WWII, this section reflects on major historical events in Taiwan and Korea to deepen understanding of Taiwan’s cultural and social evolution.

This year’s Pavilion features 84 publishers and over 500 curated titles, spanning literature, nonfiction, illustrated books, and children’s books—all categorized under the six themes of “Taiwan Sensibility.” With licensed Korean editions and branded displays, the exhibition showcases the creative depth and breadth of Taiwan’s publishing. In addition, 23 Taiwanese authors will visit Seoul to participate in 62 engaging events—from conversations to live sessions—offering vibrant opportunities for exchange.

Step into the “Taiwan Sensibility” Pavilion, open a book of shared emotions, and enter a realm of resonance.
