Regarded as the epitome of Arab culture, Sharjah boasts an impressive array of accolades, having been designated as the Arab World Cultural Capital in 1998, Islamic Cultural Capital in 2014, Arab Tourism Capital in 2015, and World Book Capital in 2019. Despite its relative unfamiliarity to us, the Seoul International Book Fair provides an excellent opportunity to become acquainted with the rich Arab culture represented by Sharjah and explore the cultural similarities between Korea and this fascinating country.

Written anthologies immortalize folk poetry and keep it for future generations to enjoy. In this symposium, we will trace back how the Emirati and Korean folk poems were collected and converted into written anthologies. We will also showcase the most prominent initiatives to collect and preserve poetry, as well as the manuscripts of well-known poets from both the UAE and Korea.

Founded in 2019 by Bodour Al Qasimi, PublisHer is a call to action by female publishing leaders to address their industry’s entrenched gender imbalances and drive an international agenda for change. Exploring the Role of Folktales in Children’s Literature: Both Korean and Emirati cultures have a rich tradition of storytelling, often centered around folktales and legends. The archaeological discoveries in the Emirate of Sharjah were featured by their cultural diversity, through the diversity of historical periods that highlight the civilizational and historical relations with East Asia.
We found the oldest historical connections to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) through the Chinese currency discovered in the Emirate of Sharjah.
As for the eastern region of the Emirate of Sharjah, we found that cultural connection increased from the thirteenth century AD to the eighteenth century. Which was clear evident in each of the sites, Khorfakkan, Dibba Al-Hisn and Lulu’iyah
The importance of the discoveries comes to highlight the depth of the civilizational connection of the Emirate of Sharjah with East Asia.
