The Best Extinction: Inferring a Brilliant End Through Science

How will we become extinct? In the era of climate crisis, is species extinction just a predetermined sad ending? The dinosaurs, protagonists of the fifth mass extinction 65 million years ago, say otherwise. The natural history of how the Earth recovered its balance after catastrophic devastation teaches us how to maintain hope. Who will be the life forms that survive on a fiery Earth? Viewing extinction history through scientific eyes gives us the strength to cope with uncertainty. And it presents us with a solid optimism that allows us to see farther and longer. We invite you to an interesting story about the extinction of Earth's organisms, told by Lee Jeong-mo, author of

The Last Stronghold: Can We Trust Scientists?

In an age where baseless claims abound, can science be our last stronghold? Amid voices all saying "trust only me," science consistently maintains "doubt and keep doubting," questioning until the end and seeking facts. Astronomer Ji Woong-bae and evolutionary biologist Lee Dae-han even go so far as to ask: "Should you trust us scientists?" But wait, shouldn't we be saying that science is ultimately the only thing we can trust? If science can also be wrong, what can we rely on? Science, which doubts everything and paradoxically gains trust because of it. We examine how to build a minimum scientific literacy and explore the scientific mindset that clearly faces oneself and the world. STS researcher Lim So-yeon also joins this heated conversation to clearly examine the relationship between science and society. Now, shall we climb together onto the shoulders of scientists who stand on the shoulders of giants?
